چکیده

The aim of the study was to find level repellent effect two chemical substances (DEET and 2-Undecanone) essential oils (from Allium sativum Eucalyptus oil) on Western corn rootworm (WCR), Diabrotica virgifera LeConte, 1868 in field conditions. Repellents were used area 5 x 4 meters with four replications. They applied as a solution 700 ?l chemical/essential oil one litter water. TWEEN 80 surfactant. After 24 48 hours, checked by visual observation. yellow sticky traps installed each plot after next hours for detection WCR adult beetles. experiment carried out during years (2019 2020) maize Mojmírovce (48.199284°N, 18.038637°E), Slovakia. results showed significant chemicals DEET 2-Undecanone adults. number beetles per plant significantly higher compared control both 2-Undecamone. This confirmed 2020, but not 2019, probably due lower catching indicate that can influence adults fields.

RECENT RESEARCH ON THE WESTERN CORN ROOTWORM Western corn rootworm ( Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte) population dynamics

1 The western corn rootworm Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte is a major insect pest of field maize, Zea mays L. Larvae can cause substantial injury by feeding on maize roots. Larval feeding may destroy individual roots or root nodes, and reduce plant growth, stability, and yield. Costs associated with managing corn rootworms in continuous maize are annually one of the largest expenditures...

Possibilities for biological control of the western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, in Central Europe

The western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera, was introduced to Europe from North America in the early 1990s. It spread rapidly from its site of introduction in Serbia and is now found over some 400,000 ha of southeastern Europe. The prospects for its classical biological control by introduction of natural enemies, including pathogens, nematodes and insects, from its area of origin...

RECENT RESEARCH ON THE WESTERN CORN ROOTWORM Behaviour and ecology of the western corn rootworm ( Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte)

1 The western corn rootworm (WCR) is a historic pest with a legacy of resistance and behavioural plasticity. Its behaviour and nutritional ecology are important to rootworm management. The success of the most effective and environmentally benign rootworm management method, annual crop rotation, was based on an understanding of rootworm behaviour and host – plant relationships. Enthusiastic adop...

Effects of refuges on the evolution of resistance to transgenic corn by the western corn rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte.

BACKGROUND Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte is a major pest of corn and causes over a billion dollars of economic loss annually through yield reductions and management costs. Corn producing toxins derived from Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) has been developed to help manage D. v. virgifera. However, previous studies have demonstrated the ability of this species to evolve resistance to Bt tox...
